Duurde

Been doing little self-exams in Dutch tonight. I need to get my skills together – have my exam the last week of June… I can’t believe it’s here so quickly. Yet other months still seem so far away.

I’ve also been having fights with the washing machine today (as every day). I can understand why the previous people gave it away – besides that it’s ancient, it also leaves calcium residue all over the clothes. No, it isn’t soap residue (many have suggested that). We use liquid soap, an anti-calcium tab, and now we’ve started using fabric softener… just to cover all the bases. But there is still white crap all over my clothes. As long as I wipe them down straight out of the wash they seem to be ok, though… a lot less fighting.

Today we had to schedule ourselves around Formula 1. I made burritos from leftover “veggie chili” that I made last night and pondered on the explanation I tried to give to T’s friend P about why Americans get “doggy-bags.” I’ve really just wanted to go to a cheap, dirty Mexican restaurant lately but there are none to be found here. So Friday I was reminiscing about the gigantic amount of food that one receives when ordering at an American-Mexican restaurant, and how you usually go into it considering what you will do the following day with the left-overs. My dad likes to make a nice breakfasty-meal with eggs out of the leftovers. He was experimenting with all types of dishes before I left.

Anyway, then for dinner I made the most magical dumplings based on a recipe from Food Network. I made a broth with two+ cups water, a vegetable bouillon, and two packets of miso, and I put some of the finished product in that and had the rest with a hoison/soy/sriracha sauce mixture. Delcious! (T. thought so, too.)

It’s funny.. I do put them all inside out. Usually it’s still the outside that is the most caulky! So stupid.
